Midsummer rendevous / GRC-9 day

Midsummer rendez-vous the 4th of September 2010

The first Saturday of September (4 sept) 2010 there will be for the first time in honor of the 15th anniversary of the Surplus Radio Society (SRS) a midsummer rendez-vous. It is believed to be a fun rendez-vous with a lot of chirpy signals from the old transceivers. The rendez-vous runs from 10:00 CEST in the morning until 22:00 CEST in the evening.  This event is especially for the fun of operating surplus equipment. A good operating practice where there will be room for the QRP stations is important. This Saturday there will be several stations operating a GRC-9 from different unique locations. The rules, logsheets and more information about this unique event can be downloaded from the SRS website.

There has been an application for a special call-sign especially for this event, PA15SRS. This call-sign will be used from the WS-19 museum.

The locations with a complete working GRC-9 station will be:
The fortress near Edam, more info www.fortbijedam.nl Call PE2ELS
Fortress island Pampus, more info www.pampus.nl Call PA3GKX
Troposcatter parabola Hoek van Holland, closed for public Call PA2AM
WS-19 Museum in Budel, more info www.jancorver.org Call PA15SRS
Fort De Gagel (Utrecht-Noord) Call PA2GRC

The above mentioned locations are opened for public the 4th of September, except the location Hoek van Holland. The location Hoek van Holland can be followed live via www.livestream.com/pa2am including chat.

The reason for choosing the 4th of September is that this weekend also the IARU field-days are held. Many sections of the VERON and VRZA will have a sociable weekend, often with a bit of promotion of our hobby and a BBQ. It would be nice to have next to all the Hightech used at the field-day stations a corner dedicated to the GRC-9 or another surplus transceiver. The GRC-9 is one of the most common available surplus transceivers and there should be  in every section a member that can bring along a GRC-9. Visitors and participants of the field-day can see first hand the fun and satisfaction that operating this kind of equipment can provide and that nice contacts can be made with them.
