The Surplus Radio Society

Who or what is the Surplus Radio Society?

The Surplus Radio Society (SRS), founded 1995, our objective is to preserve the historical and substantive knowledge of radio-communication installations, to extent and make accessible this knowledge, all within the boundaries of the law and regulations.
The members try to accomplish this objective by restoring this equipment and auxiliary components to an original and operational condition. This mostly concerns military surplus, but also civil air and maritime equipment. The age is very diverse, a lot of American, English, German and also Russian equipment from WWII, but also of a more recent date. So is there after the fall of the iron curtain in 1989 a lot of fancy Russian and Eastern German radio equipment released to the surplus market.
Quarterly there is the full colour Surplus Radio bulletin with a lot of informative articles and interesting pieces of information about our hobby.  Most articles are written by members of our society. Many members (and non members) meet each other every Sunday morning at 09:00 in the CW net on 3.575kHz and at 10:00 in the Am net on 3.705kHz, also on Wednesday there is at 19:00 a RTTY bulletin followed by an USB net on 3.705kHz until 21:00, this is for users of the more modern surplus equipment. All times are local Dutch times (CEST). Those who have worked all provinces of the Netherlands within a year can apply for the WAPAM (Worked All Provinces in AM) or HAPAM (Heard All Provinces in AM) certificate.

The SRS organises 2 times a year (June and September) field-days at farm camping de Hazendonk. At these field-days members are active with their equipment. Between Christmas and New Year we have the end of year Midwinter rendez-vous, a 'contest' using old equipment. Further there are spread over the year several tech days held at het Kulturhus De Essenburcht in Kootwijkerbroek, we have lectures related to our hobby and a swap meeting.
